International joint projects and school partnerships give students an insight into another way of life. By working together on joint projects, students can gain a greater appreciation of cultural diversity and global issues such as sustainability, conflicte.t.c. Working together is by far the best way to engage, raise motivation and create excellent quality work. Realising that they are doing the same thing with some other students in a faraway place of the world at the same time changes their view of the world. This is exactly the case with our partner school in Vietnam. We have been partners with Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School for two years.
This year we planned a project on educational systems of the three countries (UK, Vietnam and Greece) as we happened to share the same subject in our curricula. We followed the same steps, watched videos in class and analysed how the British educational system works first of all. Then, the students were engaged into a class discussion where we pinpointed the differences between our educational systems and that of the UK. We, then asked the students to write paragraphs presenting the Greek educational system with reference to structure, grading system, academic year and so on. Our partners respectively presented the Vietnamese system. In that stage, we exchanged the material produced by the students. They, then, suggested that aspects of the British educational system would be useful to be implemented in our systems or vice versa. They also discussed on extra-curricular activities and their usefulness.
On Monday, 6th March, we had a skype conference with the students of 8A5 class of Tran Quoc Toan Secondary school when the students exchanged their ideas and discussed the possible improvements in the three educational systems. It was an unforgettable experience as the students got thrilled meeting each other and exchanging ideas and opinions.
