A lot has been written and said about the dynamics of the EU and the decisions taken that keep this institution together since its beginnings. The current political situation and the events that have followed since the British referendum (2016) have added to the turbulence that is evident in all its sectors. There is no better time to examine the foundations that keep this institution together.
Students of Year 1 Junior High School in partnership with students of Year 7 of the International School of Venice worked on a joint project with which they had to examine the position of their country, namely Greece and/or Italy, or another country of their choice, and how the current financial situation and socioeconomic changes have affected its position in the EU. Our students took particular interest in this project and expressed their enthusiasm towards analyzing the ramifications and the status quo of what it feels like being an EU citizen. After exchanging ideas with their fellow students in Venice they had to compose a PowerPoint presentation that referred to the background of the EU before they summed up their views on the current situation. Their work culminated with a skype session where students were given the opportunity to exchange their ideas, refer to their countries stance on the current situation, talk about Brexit and the problems it can cause both in Britain and other European countries and finally they talked about the role of both Italy and Greece in the integration of immigrants.
Here are the projects of the students of both schools:
