Carnaval do Brazil – Φεγγάρια

So, we travel to Brazil for the biggest carnival in the world! We see big carnival parades with many different costumes and amazing dancers. Also, we explore the wider geography of Brazil and learn about the Amazon rainforest and the wildlife there. We are amazed by the beautiful patterns of animal fur and skin, the colourful birds and insects and the exotic flowers and plants.

So, to bring the spirit of Brazil in the classroom, we create a craft of Brazilian carnival paper dancers with dark brown or black colour skin, and black, curly hair made of wool. We dress them up with clothes inspired by the colourful patterns of the rainforest animals and plants. Then we dance samba and play with our rainstick, an instrument made of recyclable materials and pulses that imitates the sound of rain, which can also be used as a drum or a maraca. Finally, we all get very excited when we sing a lovely Brazilian children’s song that goes like this: ‘sapo cururu, na beira do rio…’!
