Shakespeare lives in Schools Day

On the 2nd of December the students of all levels from Nursery to Senior High School celebrated “Shakespeare Lives in Schools Day” with a series of events and activities to mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death.

Pre-nursery and Nursery students coloured a portrait of Shakespeare and made a face mask. Then, they dramatized famous scenes from Shakespeare’s plays such as the balcony scene in “Romeo and Juliet” and they wondered “To be or not to be?” like Hamlet.

Primary 1 students made a face mask of Shakespeare, learned the famous quote "To be or not to be" and watched "A Midsummer Night's dream".

Besides, in their Social Inclusion class, Primary 1 reinforced the message represented in "Midsummer Night's Dream" and created a giant Midsummer Night’s flower. Each petal represented an important positive message that the class learnt from the story.

Primary 2 students coloured Shakespeare's portrait and watched "Macbeth".

Primary 3 and 4 students copied famous quotes from Shakespeare's plays and watched "Romeo and Juliet".

Primary 5 watched “Twelfth Night” and worked on the characters of the play.

Primary 6 watched “Macbeth” and focused on the role of the witches in the play. They also solved a crossword puzzle on the plays of the Bard and answered a Quiz on his life and his works.

The students of Junior and Senior High School watched videos about the Bard’s life and work. We, then talked about well-known Shakespearean characters and read aloud a couple of his sonnets, - “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day” was everyone’s favorite! – Year 1 Junior High School students filled in a worksheet with facts on Shakespeare’s life.

A student of Year 1 Senior High School, Manolis Giortamakis, got inspired and made an original video on Shakespeare’s life, his world and the influence he has had on literature and popular culture from the 16th century and on.

Last but not least, 3 students of English Theatre Society of Primary School dramatized the scene of the witches of “Macbeth” and we sent our entry to the global “Macbeth Competition” organized by British Council – SchoolsOnline.
