Keeping abreast with the latest information as it is covered from various reporters of BBC can be an effective educational tool that informs, inspires and raises awareness. With BBC videos, students of both Junior and Senior High school get informed about the current affairs with various social, political topics discussed that they then bring in the classroom environment engaging their classmates in a class discussion where they have to further analyze, evaluate and address the issues raised during coverage of the news. With the current news as it is covered by BBC, we aim to inspire English language learning while exposing them to the formal use of the language as this is done with various newsreaders, presenters and guest speakers invited to share their opinions during various talk shows. Our students take interest in sharing these videos with their fellow students and thus playing the role of young presenters themselves informing the class about what is current on the news and what is at stake each time. So, in C1+ level, we have made it a habit, these past few weeks, to present and discuss these short videos in class. Our enthusiasm grows as the weeks go by and we engage into the social, environmental, technological or even political issues. It feels so good to dabble into the adult world of news and, needless to say, it makes our English classes far more intriguing and exciting!
