Value–based Education – “Shine a Light on Human Rights” - 1st class of Junior High School

The Respect for Human Rights project, run by our School’s English Department, aimed to foster human rights awareness and action among first graders of our Junior High School.

It was meant to assist in infusing human rights issues into subjects already taught in our curriculum. It helped our students to grasp human rights’ principles as they had the chance to explore human rights issues and develop a capacity for lively and profound reflection far beyond than usually expected. They dealt with current issues such as different forms of modern slavery which helped them build a more profound awareness and understanding of human rights.

The project aimed at stimulating independent thinking and research as well as building skills for active citizenship in a democracy.

Our students produced posters and, as they got inspired, they decided to print this motto on cups and T-shirts at our School’s Christmas Bazaar. They also used quotations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which they printed on notebooks with the valuable help of our graduate ’06, Theo Skagias to whom we are really grateful!
