At IMP Nursery we love winter because it’s cold outside and we have lots of fun inside!

Here is how we made some wonderful crafts about snow and ice.
We experimented with flour, salt and the microwave of our kitchen to create snowmen and animals that live in the Arctic!
Step 1
We mixed equal parts of salt and self-raising flour and added enough water to make it as thick as a pancake batter.

Step 3
When ready, we slipped one in the microwave oven for about 60 seconds and watched it rising!

Once cooked, the mixture becomes hard and steady, not runny anymore. But careful, it’s hot!

Step 4
We then decorated our craft using markers. For the snowmen we also used toothpicks for arms which we painted brown. We kept our polar bears simple using black ink for eyes, nose and claws and the rest was pure white, just like the ice of the North Pole. Beautiful!

Finally we made a snow storm with salt and glue and role-played the story of a young Eskimo who saved a baby polar bear from drowning. We sang and danced “I’m a happy polar bear on ice, I love the cold, I love the snow, and I love ice”. So much fun!
