“Education is not a privilege. Education is a right” – Year 1 Senior HighSchool

Noam Chomsky once said “[In capitalism] Education is one of the commodities that is for sale, and if you are affluent, you can have a lot of it”.

A number of projects both on a national and an international level have been launched in an attempt to tackle illiteracy amongst the poor people, while at the same time promote rudimentary knowledge of reading and writing in general. Additionally, the aim of such projects has been to increase opportunities for the less privileged ones. With their projects Year 1Senior high-school were asked to focus on any kind of projects that promote literacy, understanding and respect for human rights and basic fundamental freedoms. They had to make either an extensive reference to the work of NGOs organized on a local, national or international level, or inspired by their work, come up with their own charitable organization aiming at promoting education to people of different social, ethnic or religious backgrounds. The following projects are a small sample of their work.
