Value-based education - 1st class of Junior High School - “Effort and Joy”

“Effort does not always produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent effort”

Within the framework of value-based education, Junior High School First Graders approached “Joy of Effort” from a different perspective and were asked to respond to quotations concerning the specific value using critical thinking skills so as to evaluate the validity of thought behind them. Certain quotations were used in class to inspire, encourage, increase motivation and develop high-level thinking skills. Students after being involved in group discussion came up with various responses to the value of “Joy of Effort” through personal experience.

“An achievement without creative effort is not a real achievement.
Positive attitude and a serious purpose may lead to real satisfaction.
Be proud of yourself, brave and optimistic even if you fail.”

“Positive attitude gives way to great effort. As the great Greek poet,
Konstantinos Kavafis had said in his poem Ithaca :”The most interesting
thing is not the destination but the journey itself”.

“One’s life attitude proves that if he strongly believes in a goal, he makes
a total effort and gives all his energy to achieve it. A person must always
try to gather strength to go ahead with faith to his abilities, hope and
optimism.”
