A project for Life Skill Development
The following projects composed by the students of the 1st and 3rd grade of Junior High School respectively, are a product of various resources and materials that were explored, analysed and evaluated in class aiming at introducing our students to the successful development of self-confidence, respect and mutual understanding of the world around us. These power point presentations just go to show the critical thinking our students needed to employ in order to rise up to the challenges of how they see the world around them.
More specifically, the first graders upon watching the film "Chariots of Fire" and reading Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem "Ulysses" as well as extracts from the "Motorcycle Diaries" By Ernesto "Che" Guevara, were asked to research certain fields of human activity (such as sports, performing arts, and sciences) in search of role models, who stand out and have made their mark in the history of mankind. The power point presentations were really inspirational and thought-provoking for all of us involved.
With the 3rd graders, on the other hand, students were engaged in class discussions with special reference to Olympic and Paralympic athletes drawing parallels between able-bodied and handicapped athletes. Quoting Franklin D. Roosevelt's famous saying "Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort" the students produced essays, power point presentations and videos in which they addressed issues and values such as respect, sportsmanship, success-failure and how to deal with it and above all Ethos in Sports.
